Job Description:

Goodwin William Staffing in Culpeper is seeking full-time Production Assistants for temporary-to-hire manufacturing positions in Gordonsville, VA.  Candidates must be able work 12 hours shifts, 4 days a week and be able to switch between day and night shifts each month. The Production Assistant is responsible for:

  • Watching the wind-up end of the machine to assure that the master rolls are of good quality, wrapped tight with proper tension and that the roll edges are level
  • Helping the assistant operator or operator with cutting and changing rolls
  • Properly removal of finished roll/sheets by hand and/or with forklift or other mechanical equipment
  • Monitoring the sheet cutter to assure proper size, quality, and properly aligned stock of sheets
  • Moving the finished rolls/stacks to the proper storage area after weighing, tagging, and recording it
  • Performing cleaning tasks throughout the department and may be sent for equipment parts as needed.
  • Understanding and completing all necessary documentation in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Following good safety and housekeeping practices in the plant
  • Reading work order or following oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Loading and unloading materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand and/or mechanical assistance
  • Securing lifting attachments to materials and conveying load to destination or signaling crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination
  • Counting, weighing and recording number of units of materials with the BDE computer system
  • Attaching identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers
  • Stacking or assembling materials into bundles and banding bundles together
  • Clamping sections of portable conveyor together or places conveyor sections on blocks or boxes to facilitate movement of materials or products
  • Lifting heavy objects by hand or with power hoist
  • Cleaning work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators
  • Shoveling loose materials such as plastics, into hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels
  • Operating industrial fork truck and/or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products
  • Cutting and grinding plastic film
  • Producing a quality product in accordance with predetermined specifications and in accordance with a predetermined production schedule

Requirements:

  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to work long hours on your feet
  • Certified Forklift Operator
  • Basic computer skills, including typing and email
  • Ability to work the required schedule of 4 rotating days a week, 12 hours shifts
  • Candidates must be able to work for one month at a time on both day shift and night shifts; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • The ability to commit to a 3-6-month assignment that could turn into a full-time opportunity
  • Safety conscious and a team player
  • Must be able to pass a 7-year background check
  • Steel -toed boots are needed
