Goodwin William Staffing in Culpeper is seeking experienced Production Assistant candidates for full-time, temporary-to-hire jobs with a manufacturing company located in Gordonsville, VA. Candidates must be available to work a rotating schedule including day shifts, night shifts, and weekends. The Production Assistant role will perform the following job duties:
- Watches the wind-up end of the machine to assure that the master rolls are of good quality, wrapped tight with proper tension and that the roll edges are level
- Helps the assistant operator or operator with cutting and changing rolls
- Properly removes finished roll/sheets by hand and/or with forklift or other mechanical equipment
- Monitors the sheet cutter to assure proper size, quality, and properly aligned stock of sheets
- Moves the finished rolls/stacks to the proper storage area after weighing, tagging, and recording it
- Performs cleaning tasks throughout the department and may be sent for equipment parts as needed.
- Understands and completes all necessary documentation in accordance with departmental procedures
- Follows good safety and housekeeping practices in the plant
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand and/or mechanical assistance
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area
- Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination
- Counts, weighs and records number of units of materials with the BDE computer system
- Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers
- Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together
- Clamps sections of portable conveyor together or places conveyor sections on blocks or boxes to facilitate movement of materials or products
- Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators
- Shovels loose materials such as plastics, into hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels
- Operates industrial fork truck and/or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products
- May cut and grind plastic film
- Produces a quality product in accordance with predetermined specifications and in accordance with a predetermined production schedule
