Job Description:

JOB OVERVIEW

Goodwin William Staffing is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Golf Superintendent for a direct hire with our client in Central Virginia. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing spraying duties, irrigation repair, minor mechanical functions, and general care of turf areas and buildings. Additionally, this person will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operation of the golf course in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

High school graduate with five or more years of progressively responsible related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Pesticide applicators license required.

WORK PERFORMED / AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for performing spraying duties through the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Determines proper chemicals and other materials to apply and mixes them in proper formulations.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on spraying equipment.
  • Keeps records and inventory of all necessary chemicals and equipment.
  • Responsible for assisting in the maintenance and application of the irrigation system.
  • Assist with the repair or routine servicing of golf course equipment.
  • Shall be actively involved as a participant in daily grounds maintenance, and/or grounds improvements.
  • This person shall obtain and keep current all required licenses to perform their duties, included, but not limited to pesticide application and driving.
  • Shall demonstrate the following:

- Knowledge of the practices and procedures involved in the pest control operation.

- Knowledge of pesticides, herbicides and insecticides and their application.

- Knowledge of the operation and repair of spray equipment.

- Ability to recognize various vegetation problems and correct these problems.

- Ability to properly mix and use poisonous chemicals in a safe manner.

- Knowledge of mowers.

- Knowledge of small equipment associated with golf operations.

- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of work.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION

  • Employee must be capable of operating a variety of equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: all turf and golf equipment and tools, irrigation systems and tools, hand tools, power tools, computers, calculators, printers, scanners, radios, and telephones.

WORKING HOURS

Hours may vary, but will generally be 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

This is an exempt position. Job requires weekend and holiday work during the golf season. Position is on-call seven days a week, 24 hours a day in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in landscape maintenance, lawn care, or horticulture.
  • Strong supervisory experience with the ability to lead a team effectively.
  • Knowledge of construction practices related to landscaping projects.
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems and their maintenance.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and mentor team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while managing physical tasks.
